If you were at CES 2016 and had an opportunity to drop by the Keen Home booth you probably noticed a new product on display. That week, we announced the Smart Filter, an exciting addition to the Smart Vent family and the first of it’s kind in air purification. So what exactly is the Smart Filter, what does it do, and why is it important for your home?
You may not realize it, but the air we breathe isn’t necessarily great for our health. From pollens to pollutants, there are a host of harmful particles in the air we breathe each and every day. In fact, respiratory illness is on the rise in the U.S. According to the CDC, about 1 in every 12 people (approx. 25 million people) has asthma, a 28% uptick since 2001. According to the EPA, poor indoor air quality is a major environmental health problem. While every home HVAC has return vent filters, these do little to ensure the air supplied to the rooms of your home (air traveling through dirty, pollutant filled ducts) is purified.

The Keen Home Smart Filter is the only air filter to use cutting edge 3M™ technology specially designed for high air flow. Smart Filters are coated with a special anti-microbial layer and provide advanced filtration against common household contaminants including:

In building this product we set out to create a solution that could be easily added to and removed from our existing faceplates. We originally designed Smart Vent faceplates with this future application in mind--including a channel along the center of every Herringbone faceplate specifically for use with Smart Filters.

Introducing Keen Air Care -- Available in 2018
With our new Keen Air Care plan, we are making it easy to receive Smart Filter re-fills at a substantial savings. Under this plan, subscribers will receive a year's worth of Smart filters for up to four Smart Vents. We will base fulfillment of Smart Filter refills on real time HVAC system usage analysis, made possible by the Smart Vents already in your home. With Keen Air Care, users will pay $99/year for up to 12 Smart Filters that will be automatically refilled every 90-180 days, depending on usage. Standalone Smart Filters will cost $15 per filter.
